My farm story - milking the cows

This is our workman Danny he's putting cups on the cows for milking, he milks twice a day and he lives on our farm in one of our workers houses on our property with his wife and his three kids, he has a dog called Mo.

The cups suck the milk out of their udders and it gets pumped into the tanks so the milk company can pick it up. The tankers come once a day to collect the milk.

My farm story - Three little pigs

These are our Pigs that we got over the weekend, my dad bought them off trade me for meat for our family and our workmen, They are still young so will wait until they are older before we kill them with a bullet.

I like pork chops and bacon, they are some of my most favourite things from pigs.

The squeal and are really noisy sometimes.

My Farm story - Dehorning

These two photos are to do with dehorning The first one is  for the calfs to to get rid of the horns by burning them off with the gas.

The bottom one is the cattle yards where they lineup behind each other one at a time to get dehorned 

That hurts the Bulls.

My farm story - My cool family

This is a picture of my family, my mum and dad my five sisters and me and our two dogs Monty and Jake, i'm the youngest and only boy in the family.

My two older sisters don't live at home, One lives in Christchurch and one in Auckland.

This photo is taken outside our pool on the farm last summer.

My farm story - Poop ponds

This is a photo of one of our effluent ponds it catchers the raw sewage from the cows and when it's collected it is pumped underground to our paddocks, then we spray it on the fields with a irrigator to help the grass grow.

We have two effluent ponds at the farm and the smaller one pumps into the bigger one.

My farm story - Home sweet home

This is my house, my parents built it 12 years ago for our large family it has heaps of room, I sleep in the Play room so there is room for my friends to stay. I like our pool and our backyard the best and my motorbikes, the farm gives us heaps of room to drive around.

Logan and I used to have a old jeep that we could drive around in and go four wheel driving in it.

My farm story - Annoying Calf

This is a female calf who is a few days old, she is taken off her mum on day two of being alive and feed by calf feeders with the milk in them.

In this photo I am letting her suck my fingers, she thinks it is food.

We keep her in a calf pen so she is kept warm and dry.

My farm story - Silage wagon

This is our silage wagon, we use it for feeding out to the cows, silage is made of grass barley and maze and our cows love it.

We feed out silage all year round on the feed pad as extra food.

We can put over six tonne in it.

My farm story - Newborns

This is a cow that has just given birth,  The calf is only half an hour old because it can't stand up and it is still wet.

The cows have tags in their ears so we can tell them apart.

My farm story - Thomas land

This is one of our paddocks. We have 280  hectares of  land and we have over 1000 cows. We have three milkers who put the cups on and get the cows in for milking twice a day.

Our farm is in Burnham which is in the South Island of NZ.

The people who live on the farm are our contract milkers and my family, my dad and my Mum my five  sisters and me and our dogs, cats dogs and the statue giraffe.
